Your Benson, NC furnace can’t get anything done without its blower motor. That’s why you should quickly address any problems that develop with the motor. Here are five signs that you have a bad furnace blower motor.
1. Weak Airflow From the Vents
Weak airflow occurs when you can barely feel air coming from the vents. The air is coming out weakly and is possibly not reaching certain areas. This tells you that the motor is still working, but it’s likely struggling and may need maintenance or replacement.
2. Weird Furnace Noises
A bad blower motor can make sounds like squealing, rattling or grinding. For instance, a worn motor or loose motor belt might squeal. And grinding or rattling could mean damage or loose parts inside the motor.
3. High Energy Bills
You can expect high energy bills at certain times throughout the year. But if the bills surge without warning, it could mean the blower motor is wearing out. If the furnace is working harder because of a faulty motor, the strain can cause raised energy bills.
4. Frequent Overheating
When the blower motor overheats, the furnace will shut down. Overheating usually occurs when the motor is faulty or when dirt and dust build up inside. The overheating motor can also put more stress on other furnace components.
5. No Airflow
When you feel no airflow at all from the vents, it’s possible that the blower motor is broken. Set the thermostat to “Fan,” and see if you feel any air. If you do not, it’s time to call for a repair or replacement of the blower motor.
